ANDY ROURKE, the bass player who provided the muscle and drive behind the darkly poetic musings of the Smiths, one of the most influential bands of the 1980s, died on Friday in Manhattan. WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Fast X  topped the chart with 67MM, just a little less than the last one, and with the same B+ CinemaScore.  Guardians of the Galaxy 3 placed with 32.7MM on a leggy 47 percent drop in its third weekend.  Super Mario Bros showed with 9.8MM on an even leggier 22 percent drop.

JIM BROWN,  the Cleveland Browns fullback who was acclaimed as one of the greatest players in pro football history, and who remained in the public eye as a Hollywood action hero and a civil rights activist, though his name was later tarnished by accusations of violent conduct against women, died on Thursday night at his home in Los Angeles. He was 87.

RICK DALTON, best known for his roles in the hit TV series Bounty Law and The Fireman trilogy, passed away at his home in Hawaii.  He was 69.

INDIANA JONES 5 got a lukewarm reception at Cannes.
