SEALS & CROFT: "Summer Breeze." Because it's that time of year in this hemisphere.

KINGS GO FORTH: Andy Noble, founding bassist of the ten-piece, Milwaukee-based soul orchestra, talks to The New Yorker about his former gig as a record store owner.  And if you haven't heard the band, you can check 'em out via the ol' HM.

NORTH KOREA's currency devaluation, apparently an attempt to prop up a foundering state-run economy, was for some the worst disaster since a famine that killed hundreds of thousands in the mid-1990s.

IRAN: One day after the Security Council approved new sanctions against them, the authorities in Tehran threatened to revise their relationship with the United Nations' nuclear watchdog, using familiar language that has in the past presaged moves to limit global oversight of Iran's nuclear program.

AFGHANISTAN: Gen. McCrystal said Thursday that major parts of the military operation to secure Kandahar, the birthplace of the Taliban movement, would be pushed back because it was taking longer than expected to win local support.  Meanwhile, suspected Taliban militants executed a seven-year-old boy in southern Afghanistan after accusing him of spying for the government.

SHE & HIM: "In the Sun" and the dancetastic (500) Days of Summer version of "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?" are your twofer Tuesday, because Ken King and I got to see the duo last night.  Barely, that is. Millenium Park was a mob scene and the crowd control was sufficiently bad that folks on the lawn really couldn't see the band, except by chance.  That being said -- and without a close enough view of Zooey Deschanel to distract me -- I can report that M Ward runs a tight band with well-drilled harmonies.  Ken and I did sneak alongside the pavillion near the end of the set for a better view, though the band was still pretty small (and Zooey smaller still) .  The encores were pretty much the same as at Coachella -- covers of "Roll Over Beethoven" (letting M take the lead) and "I Put a Spell on You" (letting Zooey go at full blast), though I think both sounded better live than on the Tube. What you miss in that last clip is M Ward niftily looping a lick over a riff before escorting Zooey offstage. I recommend you see 'em... but then again, I recommend I see 'em next time. UPDATE: Here's the Chicago take on "I Put a Spell on You."

THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP: The Independent surveys the cross-polination of rock across the Anglosphere.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Shrek Forever After threepeats as the champ with 25.3 million, in a weekend that shows both the level of disarray among the competition and the power of holding 3-D screens at your local cineplex.  Get Him to The Greek places with a 17.4 million debut against a 40 million budget, which likely makes it another repeat of the successful Apatow production formula (keep the budget down).  It will likely finish somewhere around 100 million, about twice as much as the total for Apatow's more costly Funny People.  OTOH, Killers shows with a 16.1 million debut against a 75 million budget -- and that was at the low end of projections.  Ashton Kutcher's last two projects went straight to DVD, but this one cost too much. Good thing Lionsgate sold the foreign rights to cut their exposure.  Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time drops a notch -- and 54 percent -- to the fourth slot, with 13.9 million. Overseas receipts will have to save this 200-million price tag.  Sex & the City 2 plummeted 59 percent to the bottom of the Top 5 with 12.7 million; it has made 73.4 million, but the original had broken the 100 million mark at this point in its run.  Below the fold, Marmaduke's 6th place, 11.3 million opening (against a 50 million budget) helps explain why Shrek remains at the top, while Splice about as disappointingly in eigth place with about 7.5 million against a 30 million budget.

GARY COLEMAN's parents have withdrawn their court bid over their son's body.

TIGER WOODS: Elin Nordegren packed up the couple's two kids to visit her brother in Shanghai, China, according to RadarOnline.
