THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:

...with T.REX! Marc Bolan died on September 17, 1977, so here's a few items off the beaten path, like this working version of "Get It On (Bang A Gong)," which is a little nsfw toward the end.  French TV is the source for live clips of "Hot Love," "Cadillac," "Telegram Sam" and "Jeepster" circa 1972, as well as "Ride A White Swan" from 1970. The band's "Baby Strange" later found its way into Big Star's setlists.  Still, "20th Century Boy" may be my favorite track from the band. Wanna go deeper? Check out the documentary, The Story Of Marc Bolan & T.Rex.

NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases are Hustlers, which is currently scoring 88 percent on the ol' Tomatometer; and The Goldfinch, which is currently scoring 28 percent.

SOUTH PARK through 2022. Trey Parker and Matt Stone discuss how long they want to keep doing the show, some plans to make a (non-South Park) movie for the first time in 15 years and the rise of cancel culture.

THE MANDALORIAN: Could two fan favorites from the Star Wars Expanded Universe show up in a live-action production for the first time?

JULIA STILES can’t remember the last time she sought out and actively pursued a project, like she did with Hustlers.

DEMI MOORE talks to the New York Times about her upcoming memoir.

AMERICAN BEAUTY is getting 20th anniversary scrutiny from Uproxx and the HuffPost.

NOTHING SAYS THE WEEKEND like a capybara farting in the bath.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: It: Chapter Two easily dominated the chart with a 91MM debut; that's about 26 percent less than the original's 123MM debut, while the production budget doubled to 80MM.It's hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice, esp. with a nearly 3-hour running time and worse reviews; it will probably make a tidy profit, unless the bottom falls out next weekend.  Angel Has Fallen places with 6MMon a 49 percent drop in its third frame.  Good Boys shows with 5.4MM on a 43 percent drop, though it's all gravy at this point.  The Lion King takes in another 4.2MM from the fourth slot; a week from now it will pass Star Wars: Rogue One to become the 11th biggest domestic grosser.  Overcomer hangs in to round out the Top Five with 3.75MM, adding to the gravy for this faith-based feature.
