WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Jigsaw topped the chart with 16.5MM against a 10MM budget, among the lowest openings of the Saw franchise on a weekend that overall was among the worst of the decade. Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween placed with 10MM on a 53 percent drop typical of Tyler Peryy flicks.  Geostorm showed with 5.7MM on 59 percent drop in its second weekend... but it's made over 1110MM in foreign markets.  The disaster flick could still wind up as one, dpending on the marketing budget. Happy Death Day took the fourth slot with 5MM on a 46 percent drop, which is fine with 48MM domestic against a 4.8MM budget.  Blade Runner 2049 rounded out the Top Five with 4MM on a 46 percent drop; the worldwide total so far is 223MM, but with a budget somewhere between 150-185M, the big winner here may be Thor: Ragnarok, opening this week. Below the fold, both Thank You For Your Service and Suburbicon opened poorly, particularly given the weak competition.

THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:

...STREAMING FROM THE CASTLE EAST! This fan-made 1973 video for "The Monster Mash" is today's must-see clip (natch), though you can also see Bobby "Boris" Pickett perform it live at Little Steven's Halloween a Go-Go 2005. The covers by The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band and The Misfits are pretty good also -- the latter uses clips from the Rankin-Bass animated classic, Mad Monster Party.

THE SHAGGS: It's Halloween!

JIM CARROLL (deceased) sings about "People Who Died."

KISS got their first television exposure in 1976 on The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. (At ~26:00, though the whole thing is scary in its own way.)

"DO THEY KNOW IT'S HALLOWEEN?" is the all-star charity send-up of Band-Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" featuring Roky Erikson, Elvira, plus members from Arcade Fire, Sonic Youth, Smoosh, Rilo Kiley, Sparks and many more.

52 HORROR RELEASES from the Free Music Archive.

HALLOWEEN A/V: The Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer," Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising," Echo & the Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon,"  Santana's "Black Magic Woman", The Ramones' "Pet Sematary," Alice Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare," Siouxsie & the Banshees' "Halloween," The Eagles' "Witchy Woman," Tegan & Sara's "Walking With a Ghost," Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds' "Red Right Hand," AC/DC's "Hell's Bells," The Cramps' "Goo Goo Muck," Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper (More Cowbell)," Tom Waits' "Cemetery Polka," The Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein," and Oingo Boingo's "Dead Man's Party."  And, of course... Screamin' Jay Hawkins.

THE ROLLING STONES' "Sympathy For The Devil" from the David Frost Show just plain amuses me. Monty Python makes much more sense when you know most of them once wrote for Frost.

WARREN ZEVON: A live trifecta of "Werewolves of London," "Excitable Boy" and "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner."

THOMAS DOLBY: How about the mad vibe of "She Blinded Me With Science"?

HENRI MANCINI: "Experiment in Terror." A sentimental favorite to those who grew up watching "Creature Features" on WGN before it went superstation.

THE TIME WARP: Let's do it again.

NOW SHOWING: This weekend's wide releases include Jigsaw, which was not screened for critics; Suburbicon, which is currently scoring 33 percent on the ol' Tomatometer; and Thank You For Your Service, scoring 72 percent.

AND NOW: A Sophisticated Man About Town. Super-duper.

GRIM GRINNING GHOSTS, from the Haunted Mansion.

"THRILLER": The original 13-minute Jacko classic, plus the filipino prisoners.

IT'S THE GREAT PUMPKIN, CHARLIE BROWN is viewable at ABC. Also, Rifftrax is available. The WaPo has 7 Things You Don't Know about the perennial Peanuts classic. Vox thinks it's a Christmas special. And master troll Andrew Stiles finds the whole thing very problematic.

WAR of the WORLDS: All these decades years later, you can stream the infamous Orson Welles broadcast from the Internet Archive.

THE WILHELM SCREAM: The repeatedly used film and television stock sound effect first used in 1951 for the film Distant Drums, now appearing as an in-joke in many films, is the subject of a Masters of Horror segment.

FATS DOMINO, the New Orleans rhythm-and-blues singer whose two-fisted boogie-woogie piano and nonchalant vocals, heard on dozens of hits, made him one of the biggest stars of the early rock ’n’ roll era, died on Tuesday at his home in Harvey, La., across the Mississippi River from New Orleans.
