ADAM SCHLESINGER, a singer-songwriter for the bands Fountains of Wayne and Ivy who had an award-winning second career writing songs for film (including "That Thing You Do" and the Wham!tastic "Pop Goes My Heart"), theater and television, died from complications of the coronavirus, on Wednesday. He was 52. In addition to that NYT obit, here's Rolling Stone, Variety, and NPR.  Brooklyn Vegan has your tributes.  RS also has 20 Essential Songs spanning Schlesinger's career, including "Stacy's Mom," but you rally could not go wrong picking just about any of his songs at random.I have fond memories of Fountains of Wayne live, including the way that they would turn their terrific "Radiation Vibe" into a a medley of 70s and 80s cheese (or do you prefer it unplugged).

ELLIS MARSALIS, jazz pianist, teacher and patriarch of a New Orleans musical family that includes famed musician sons Wynton and Branford, has died. He was 85.

I'll be back tomorrow, once I've composed myself.
