DAMON HARRIS, who joined the Temptations when Eddie Kendricks left in 1971, has died after a fight with prostate cancer. He was 62.  He sang lead on "Papa Was A Rollin' Stone."  And when he died, all he left us was alone.

DIANE CHARLOTTE LAMPERT, an accomplished songwriter of the 1950s and 1960s who wrote lyrics to title songs for more than 20 movies, has died of heart faiulure at 88.  She also wrote pop songs including Brenda Lee's "Break It To Me Gently" (recently featured in our Cutout Bin), and "Nothin' Shakin'", which was covered by The Beatles (Live at the BBC).  The latter was an early form of sampling, too.

THE OSCARS went to these folks.  Except for Daniel Day-Lewis, a bad night for Lincoln, but Lincoln usually has bad night at the theater.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Hollywood cleared Oscars weekend so successfully that Identity Thief topped the chart with 14 million; it now has a 93.7 million total against a 35 million budget.  The debut of Snitch placed with 13 million.  Escape From Planet Earth edged up to show with 11 million, which takes it to near-breakeven with its budget.  Safe Haven drops 50 percent to the fourth slot with 10.6 million (and 48 million against a 28 million budget).  A Good Day To Die Hard skids 60 percent from last week's topper to round out the Top 5 with 10 million (and 51 million so far against a 92 million budget).  Below the fold, Dark Skies debuted in sixth place with 8.9 million, which ain't bad against a 3.5 million budget.
