WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Finding Dory threepeats atop the chart with 50.2MM, reminding us that while the July 4 weekend used to be a massive movie weekend, it has not been such for at least six years now. The Pixar sequels' domestic total stands at 380.5MM already; it's rolling out gradually in foreign markets, but a billion total seems likely. The debut of The Legend of Tarzan places 45.6MM, which would be alright if it didn't have a 180MM production budget; it won't be a big flop, but a struggler.  The debut of The Purge: Election Year shows with 34.8MM, which looks pretty good against a 10MM production budget. Steven Spielberg's The BFG opens in the fourth slot with 22.3MM, which is ouchy against a 140MM production budget, even if good-word-of mouth brings more people here and the Spielberg name helps overseas. Independence Day: Resurgence rounds out the Top Five with 20.2MM, dropping 51 percent even on its eponymous weekend; even strong overseas receipts to datemay not drag this sequel into the black on big screens.
