RIC OCASEK, the idiosyncratic songwriter, singer and guitarist for the Cars and producer for bands like Weezer, Bad Brains, No Doubt, and Guided by Voices to name a few, has died. He was 75 (That's right, he was as old as Roger Daltrey and Ray Davies). Rolling Stone has the obit. So let's do this. Some of The Cars' hits were sung by the late Benjamin Orr, but Ocasek wrote virtually all of them, mixing influences from the Velvet Underground to Buddy Holly to Suicide to the Ohio Express: "Good Times Roll," "Best Friend's Girl, "Just What I Needed," "Bye Bye Love," "Moving In Stereo," (Hello, Brad...) "I'm In Touch With Your World," "Don't Cha Stop," "Let's Go," "Candy-O," "The Dangerous Type," "Touch and Go," Shoo Be Doo and Gimme Some Slack," "Since You're Gone," "Shake It Up," "I'm Not The One," "You Might Think,""Hello Again," "Magic," "Drive," and "Heartbeat City." The Cars were inducted into the Rock Hall last year.

EDDIE MONEY, the prolific singer and songwriter whose songs “Baby Hold On,” “Two Tickets to Paradise,” “Shakin'” and “Take Me Home Tonight” soundtracked popular music in the 1980s, died Friday. He was 70. I'm also partial to "Gimme Some Water."

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: It Chapter Two tops the chart with 40.7MM on a 53 percent drop, busting the 300MM mark worldwide (and the franchise past a billion). The real story of the weekend may be Hustlers placing with a strong 33MM angainst a 20MM budget, proving a solid pic for adults can still bring in a crowd, particularly with a diverse cast bringing in multiple fan followings. That said, the B- CinemaScore raises the question of whether this lands closer to Magic Mike or to Striptease. Angel Has Fallen shows with 4.4MM on a 27 percent drop; it has crossed 60MM domestic against a 40MM production budget, but it has yet to debut in foreign markets.  Good Boys takes the fourth slot with 4.3MM and over 90MM worldwide.  The Lion King rounds out the Top Five with another 3.6MM added to its giant pile of money.  If Hustlers is this weekend's good news story, The Goldfinch is its bad news story, debutingat number eight with 2.6MM against a 45MM budget. Also, with 329MM, One Upon a Time... in Hollywood has now passed Inglourious Basterds to become Quentin Tarantino's second-biggest grosser behind Django Unchained.
