New Go! Team, New Releases, Mojo Nixon, VU, Giant Pike

THE GO! TEAM:  If it seems like we just had a new video from them yesterday, you would be correct, but here's yet another new video featuring road footage — for "My World" — from the upcoming album.  It's pretty soft and unpluggedy for the Team.

NEW RELEASES:  The Rentals, You Say Party, We Say Die!, Junior Senior and more are streaming from Spinner this week.  I confess that I count a few Junior Senior tracks as very guilty pleasures.  Metric offshoot Bang Lime debuts.  Eisley keeps it poppy on their sophomore LP.  Folk-rock legend Linda Thompson releases a solo LP with cameos from son Teddy and daughter Kamila, not to mention Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons) and Rufus and Martha Wainwright.  And Linda even has a song about troubled rocker Pete Doherty.

IGGY POP talks to Pitchfork about a lot of things, including his current musical likes and dislikes, and what you lose being famous.

THE POLYPHONIC SPREE did an interview and mini-set for the World Cafe you can stream from NPR on demand.

AMY WINEHOUSE:  You've heard her music, she's toured the US with the Dap-Kings, she's talking about her drug overdose, and with all that publicity… Universal plans to release her debut LP, Frank in November, a mere four years after it was released in the UK.

MOJO NIXON & SKID ROPER help us ease into Elvis week with "Elvis Is Everywhere" (with a cameo from the Beat Farmers).  Who built the pyramids? El-VIS!  Throw in "Debbie Gibson Is Pregnant with My 2 Headed Love Child" (featuring Wynona Ryder) and you have Twofer Tuesday.  BTW, Mojo offstage is about as uninhibited as Mojo onstage; I saw him naked when I met him.

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND:  PopMatters, in the first of two excerpts from the Rough Guide to the band, recounts the effect that meeting Andy Warhol had on the VU's career.

BISHOP ALLEN played a mini-set  for Jimmy Petersen you can stream from Oregon Public Broadcasting.

BUFFALO TOM talk to Harp about their influences, from the obvious J Mascis to the obscure — like the Neats (with whom Paul Miller and I once picnicked).

THE FOUR TOPS plan to record a song with Aretha Franklin.  Abdul "Duke" Fakir, the lone original member left, seems to get that the old days are back with a new twist: "We would like to get a lot of momentum on singles, 'cause people are buying singles digitally now, and we want to create something before we just put an album out there."

BRITNEY SPEARS:  According to TMZ, sources connected with the custody battle between the pop tart and Fed-Ex say it may be all about the Benjamins.  Shocka!

KATE HUDSON'S family may "a little annoyed" that new bf Dax Shepard is basically living at Kate's pad, but ex-hubby and Black Crowe Chris Robinson is happy because now he can have their 3-year-old son Ryder whenever he wants.

BRADGELINA and their brood got an after-hours tour of the Field Museum here in Chicago, where Jolie is shooting Wanted.  Actually, she was stuck in Berwyn the other day, but Afghanistan was probably good preparation for that.

TOM-KAT UPDATE:  Holmes has decided to stop dressing older and is trying to get her control-freak husband Tom Cruise to dress younger.  In the meantime, Tom-Kat and the Tom-Kitten met the former cuddly polar cub Knut.

LINDSAY LOHAN is "dynamite" in bed, according to sometimes bf Callum Best, who adds that their sex sessions leave their hotel room looking like a whirlwind has passed through.  No wonder people are suggesting she sign a big pr0n contract.  Meanwhile, her ex-con dad plans to sue her former bodyguard following comments the minder made about him and his estranged wife Dina.

INDONESIA:  Some 100,000 Islamists met in Jakarta to press for the re-establishment of an Islamic state across the Muslim world.  The group — Hizb ut-Tahrir — claims to be non-violent, though in January they urged the killing of Muslims and non-Muslims who oppose the creation of an Islamic superstate.

PAKISTAN:  Al Qaeda and Taliban personnel abandoned 28 terror camps after the US presented Islamabad with a dossier detailing the location of the bases as advance information on likely US targets.   It is one reason US intel officers are worried about an attack on the US.

IRAQ:  Operation Phantom Strike was launched Monday, and "consists of simultaneous operations throughout Iraq focused on pursuing remaining AQI terrorists and Iranian-supported extremist elements."  Bill Roggio notes that the Baghdad Security Plan and Phantom Thunder can be considered shaping operations for Phantom Strike.  Over the weekend, both the Mahdi Army and AQI appear to have conducted bold assassination attempts on Iraqis working with the Coalition.  The number of truck bombs and other large al-Qaeda-style attacks in Iraq have declined nearly 50 percent since the US started increasing troop levels in Iraq about six months ago, according to the US military command.  IraqSlogger rounds up Iraqi media coverage of machinations among Prime Minister al-Maliki, th Sunni Accord Front and Iyad Allawi's bloc.  Michael Yon writes that "Our military has increasing moral authority in Iraq, but the same cannot be said for our government…"
