THE BEATLES: Revolver is getting an all-star tribute organized by...Howard Stern.

THE BEACH BOYS' Pet Sounds gets a 50th anniversary review from John Munson (Semisonic, Trip Shakespeare).

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children topped the chart with 28.5MM, a result likely disappointing for both the studio and director Tim Burton; it's result much like the debut of A Series of Unfortunate Events, which would be unfortunate for both. Deepwater Horizon placed with 20.6MM, a result even more disappointing against a budget similar to that for the Burton flick. (Note: Both of these debuts combined are less than The Martian opened with a year ago.)  The Magnificent Seven remake showed with 15.7MM on a must-be-disappointing 54 percent drop.  Storks took the fourth slot with 13.8MM on a leggier 35 percent dro, though the weak opening levaes it struggling for profit.  Sully rounded out the Top Five with 8.4MM and seems the most likely to profit of this group.

KIM KARDASHIAN was held at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room by masked men dressed as police officers. She was unharmed.

LINDSAY LOHAN lost a portion of her ring finger in a boating accident ... and the pic is horrifying.

OSCAR BRAND,  the lanky, affable, gravelly-voiced folk singer and songwriter whose weekly on-air hootenanny was the longest-running radio show in history with a single host, died on Friday at his home in Great Neck, N.Y. He was 96. The NYT barely alludes to his more risque material, which is how I knew him.

THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE:

...with THE GO-GOs!  They made history as the first all-female band that both wrote their own songs and played their own instruments to top the Billboard album charts. Kind of a hard band to place seasonally. Their debut, Beauty and the Beat, which yielded hits like "Our Lips Are Sealed" and "We Got the Beat," as well as great album cuts like "This Town," "Lust to Love," "Tonite" and "How Much More," came out in late Summer 1981, iirc, and "Lips" was climbing the charts that Fall, so I mentally place the band in this time of year. And it's still warm enough that the title track to the too-quick sophomore album, "Vacation," -- or their cover of the Capitols' "Cool Jerk" -- doesn't sound too out of place. "Get Up and Go" was also a single from that LP, but it didn't make the Top 40.  The band would chart twice more -- in 1984, with "Head Over Heels" and "Turn to You" -- before splitting and the near-inevitable reunion tours, which have perhaps just ended.

BRANGELEXIT: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's lawyers are trying to hash out a custody agreement for the estranged couple and their six children. Meanwhile, Jolie retained the help of legendary crisis manager Judy Smith.  NBC has abruptly pulled the plug on a one-hour special on the breakup.

TAYLOR SWIFT & CALVIN HARRIS are no longer at war after one of Hollywood's nastiest breakups, and are firmly in the friend zone.

JAY Z inked an exclusive film and TV first-look overall deal with The Weinstein Company.
