WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Godzilla: King of the Monsters tops the chartwith 49MM, which is down 47 percent from the 2014 reboot; however, it has grossed 130MM more in foreign markets, which may assuague concerns about its 170MM budget. Aladdin places with 42.3MM on a 54 percent drop, but has matched its 183MM budget domestically and 445MM worldwide. Rocketman shows with 25MM against a 40MM bdget; its A- Cinemascore may gave it legs. Ma takes the fourth slot with 18MM against a 5MM budget, another successful Blumhouse budget special. John Wick: Chapter 3, taking a hit from the big lizard, rounds out the Top Five with  11MM on a 55 percent drop; it has a worldwide total of 221MM against a reported 55MM budget.

ROKY ERICKSON, lead vocalist and principal songwriter for the psychedelic band the 13th Floor Elevators and one of the leading lights of Texas rock – died Friday in Austin. Best known for the Elevators’ seething 1966 single “You’re Gonna Miss Me,” he was 71.
